1936 Season May 29, 1936: LWBC meeting scheduled for Monday, June 1, 1936. May 30, 1936: In 'One Foot on Sports Rail,' a daily Times-Journal newspaper column, F.W. Edwards (Sports Editor) writes, "Did you know, although little more than a babe in arms in the matter of existence in sporting world, the Lakehead Wheelers Bicycle Club has already given the city reason enough to feel justly proud of its achievement and enterprise. Not only have the members of this organization carried their colours far afield and returned covered with fame and glory, but they have generally impressed the public at large that they are an organization that deserves much more encouragement than they get. Several attempts have been made to interest those who are most concerned with bicycles and the possibilities of cycling, but to no avail. Another opportunity to put the pleasant pastime where it rightfully belongs is being offered Monday night, when the Wheelers meet in an annual session at the Thunder Bay Athletic Association on North Street at 9 o'clock. This is a chance for cyclists and others who may be interested, to come to the assistance of the L.W.B.C. in a big way." June 2, 1936: Wheelers Honor Walter Sargent-Make Him Honorary Life Member Following His Resignation as President. June 13, 1936: Wheeler Making Marked Progress-Command spotlight Over-night-Now Aspire to Track of Their Own-Plan meet June 27. Up until a few years ago bike racing was an almost lost art at the head of the lakes, but with the advent of the Lakehead Wheelers Bicycle Club it virtually came back overnight. There was a time when bike racing was quite the rage here. Of late years, however, lack of proper promotion saw interest in this form of athletic endeavor fade and gradually pass out of the picture entirely. The organization of the Lakehead Wheelers through the energies of such oldtime riders as Walter Sargent, Bob Walker, Louis Brunetti, Paul Brunette, Dave Corbett, Sec Brunello, Ray Smith, Ralph Aldrich and others, however did a considerable amount to change this order of affairs.
