Junior Development Program
Program Info
What's Involved:
The Thunder Bay Cycling Club Junior Development Program runs over a 16 week period beginning April 12, 2011. The program is designed to develop Junior riders skills in both group riding and racing skills and tactics. Over the 16 week period, riders will be provided with training on bike road safety, group riding, bike handling skills, race tactics, as well as basic bike maintenance skills. Riders aged 13-18 are welcome to participate in the program. Rides will take place Tuesday nights at 6:00pm leaving from the Lakehead University Fieldhouse, and will last approximately 1.5 hours.
Program Structure:
The program will run for 16 weeks with coaching instruction provided by Dave MacIsaac, and Kevin Paradis, who both have extensive competitive racing and coaching backgrounds and are Ontario Cycling Association trained coaches. Kevin and Dave will take the group through a development program designed to bring the rider out the other end as a confident and safe cyclist.
What you need:
- A road bike with standard drop bars
- An approved cycling helmet
- Appropriate cycling apparel
- A Thunder Bay Cycling Club Membership
Benefits of joining:
The Junior Development Program will prepare you to participate in all Thunder Bay Cycling Club road races, criteriums, time trials and road tours , along with providing opportunities to travel to both Provincial and National level races. You will become a better and stronger cyclist, increase your health and fitness levels, meet new friends, and have a great time cycling!
What's it cost:
The cost of the program is becoming a member of the Thunder Bay Cycling Club which is $45 for Juniors. There are no additional fees to participate in the Junior Program.
How To Join:
To join the program, simply become a member of the Thunder Bay Cycling Club and come out Tuesday nights at 6:00pm at the Lakehead University Fieldhouse! Riders are free to join at any time during the cycling season. We also have two free "Try-Out" evenings on May 18th and June 1st.
